Reading assignments: Reading is near useless unless done actively. Use
paper and pencil to work out the steps for yourself. Summarize the
key points by writing them down in your own words. I may ask you in
class to tell us what you found the main points to be.
- by Wed. Oct. 4: 1.1-1.6.
- by Monday Oct. 9: All of chapter 2.
- by Monday Oct. 16: 3.1,3.2,3.4,3.10,3.12
- by Monday Oct. 30: All of chapter 4 except 4.5
- by Monday Nov. 13: 5.1 - 5.8
- by Monday Dec. 4: all of 9 except for 9.7 and 9.8
Homework: You may work collaboratively, but be sure you understand
any solutions you are turning in. Also be sure working with others
is not harming your development of problem-solving skills. Homework
is due at 4pm in Jason Dick's mail box. Note that test are 75% of the
grade and you should be sure that doing homework is going to help
you on the tests.
- Due Monday, October 9th by 4pm: Goldstein 1.2, 1.3, 1.9, 1.10, 1.13 and 1.14
- Due Wednesday, October 18 by 4pm: Goldstein 2.3, 2.10, 2.14, 2.16, 2.19, 2.26
- Due Wednesday, November 1st by 4pm: 4.2, 4.3, 4.7, 4.11, 4.17, 4.22 and 4.25. For 4.11 you can use the fact that the det[AB] = det[A]det[B].
- Due Friday, November 10th by 4pm: 5.3, 5.4, 5.13, 5.16, 5.22, 5.23, 5.29.
